Tarot Cards: One of the oldest forms of Divination, The Tarot is a deck of 78 cards, each with its own imagery, symbolism and story. The 22 Major Arcana Cards represent life's karmic and spiritual lessons, and the 56 Minor Arcana Cards reflect the trials and tribulations that we experience on a daily basis.

Within the Minor Arcana cards, there are 16 Tarot Court Cards representing 16 different personality characteristics we may choose to express at any given time. The Minor Arcana also includes 40 numbered cards organised into 4 Suits, with 10 cards each, representing various situations that we encounter day-to-day. 

Oracle Cards: Oracle cards – sometimes called divination cards or decks – are sets of cards with pictures and meanings that are specific to the vision of the creator(s) of the deck.  They can have any number of cards, from as low as 20 to as many as 144 — though 44, being a Master Number, most often make up the deck.  The artwork can be symbolic or reality-based; while many decks are illustrated with angels, we have seen oracle cards with abstract art, plants, crystals, kitchen utensils, mythical creatures, planets and stars, various gods and goddesses – even anatomical drawings!  They can have specific word-keys (“Abundance,” “Power,” “Compassion”), phrases (“Spiritual Law of Attraction,” “Peace Offering,” “Father, Brother, Husband, Son”) or full messages (“Today is your day to claim your Prosperity.  Don’t hold back.”)

What's The difference? 

At a really high level, Tarot cards come as a traditionally structured deck. There are a few more rules when it comes to Tarot than there are with Oracle cards. Oracle cards are really free flowing – and they can feature almost any kind of content. With Tarot cards, there are usually around 78 cards. Some decks like to stand out and be a bit different. You might end up with 80 cards or 44 cards, but for the most part, it’s 78 cards. With Oracle cards, on the other hand, there are no set number of cards. You can have a deck with 12 cards, 100 cards, or anything in between.

Tarot cards have a traditional structure to the deck and common meanings. Most decks are Rider-Waite derivatives, and they share common themes across those different decks. The images and the pictures might be completely different, but often the messaging behind that card is very similar. So with Tarot cards, there is a common theme that runs through most cards, whereas Oracle cards have no common theme.

With Tarot Decks, you rely on your intuition or the intuition of The Professional Reader you have an appointment with. Although Tarot Cards do come with instruction books, use these only as a guide. Don't memorize the instructions as your intuition may differ. ALWAYS rely on your intuition when reading The Tarot. 

Oracle Cards give you the meanings and the messages. They are easier to read with for beginners or for those who are developing their intuition as a Reader.
